The sixth specimen from L’Herbier des Souverains, an imagined botanical archive devoted to rulers whose kingdoms have disappeared from every map.

Le Souverain d’Octobre appears as though his kingdom has overtaken him. A cathedral rises from his crown, while flowers, leaves, berries and branches preserve the landscape of a country that no longer exists. Above him, a swallow remains in flight — the last living witness to a vanished realm.

The branch crossing his mouth carries the meaning of an unfinished promise: a treaty that was never written into the archives. Pearls trace the sovereign’s garments like fragments of a royal record, while the garden continues to grow through the portrait.

In L’Herbier des Souverains, architecture remembers the capital, birds remember the inhabitants, flowers preserve knowledge, and the landscape becomes the final map.
