L’Herbier des Souverains
Specimen IV · La Souveraine d’Août
The August Sovereign
Her kingdom was built around a single cathedral.
It rose behind her like the final monument of a country that had already begun to disappear, while the fields around it continued to produce their strange abundance: berries, flowers, artichokes, and branches heavy with fruit.
She wears the garden as a crown, but the kingdom is no longer behind her. It has begun to grow through her.
Among the branches is a small embroidered banner — a fragment of a forgotten emblem, preserved after the country itself was lost.
No one remembers who ruled there.
Only that, when the kingdom vanished, the garden remained.
Every kingdom ends as a garden.
