The June Sovereign

Her kingdom was once known for its gardens of artichokes.

They grew around the palace in concentric beds, their leaves opening like small green crowns. At the center of the kingdom stood a cathedral whose doors could only be opened with a key carried by the sovereign herself.

No map records what happened to the kingdom.

Only the garden remained.

The key is still there, hidden among the leaves — a small relic of a place that disappeared before anyone could record its name.

The sovereign carries her kingdom as an emblem rather than a memory: cultivated, ordered, ceremonial, and already returning to the earth.

Every kingdom ends as a garden.
